TASTING COURSE

Mediterranean International Wine and Spirits Challendge (MIWSC): LOGO

Course duration: 4 sessions

Level: ADVANCED

The course consists of 4 sessions, with the first 3 being held at the Grape Man's House, 3 hours each session. Includes blind tastings from the best regions in Israel and around the world. In the fourth session, course participants will be invited to judge as guest judges at the international wine competition: TERRAVINO.

The course is intended for wine enthusiasts who are interested in getting to know and judge wine quality at the most professional level and aims to designate course graduates to be professional wine judges.

During the course, over 30 wines of different types and from the most important wine regions in the world will be tasted, with participants learning to describe and rate the aromas, identify defects and diagnose the quality and grade of the wine.

During the course, wines from the highest levels in the world will be tasted alongside simple table wines. We will learn to discover the secrets behind the wine and judge the drink itself, not the label that adorns the bottle. All tastings will be conducted blind to the highest international standards of judicial tasting.

Session 1: The Wheel of Smells, Flaws, and Blind Wine Tasting
This first session will introduce you to the secrets of blind wine tasting, while introducing you to and using the official international wine tasting form used by the International Wine Organization (OIV). This session will also cover the flavors and aromas that come from wine, the aroma, bouquet, secondary and tertiary flavors, and identifying the flaws that can form in wine, whether during the production process or during the aging process.

Session 2: Wine Criticism and Judging
This second session will delve into everything related to wine judging and using the official tasting form, through an introduction to how to write tasting notes and identifying the small nuances of each wine.

Session 3: The Wine Competition
This third session deals with the practice itself, the professional wine competition, the rules of tasting and the necessary aids, the role of the tasting director, the calibration of the tasters before the start of the judging, the division into judging panels and the awarding of scores within a minute and a half for each wine, and the final weighing method and medals.

Session 4: "Final Project - Participation in the TERRAVINO International Wine Competition".

This fourth session is exceptional and will not take place near the previous sessions, but rather during the TERRAVINO International Wine Competition, where the course graduates will be guest judges (whose results are not weighted in the final score) whose records are measured against the final score that will be given to the wine. This judging day includes breakfast and lunch together with the official competition judges from Israel and abroad.

At the end of the course, two certificates are given, the first a certificate of completion of the course and the second an official certificate of participation as a guest judge at TERRAVINO, signed by the organizers.

Members of the Grape Man Club enjoy discounts of up to 50%.
